In Doha, Hina Rabbani is expected to represent Pakistan at the FIFA World Cup

ISLAMABAD: Will the Foreign Office of Pakistan send a senior official to see the FIFA World Cup in Doha before it concludes in the second week of December?

Before the World Cup even began, the Foreign Office had already received invitations, and world leaders, including Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman, who watched his country's team defeat Argentina's champions in an incredible and unforgettable victory, attended the opening ceremony.

The News was informed by diplomatic sources in Doha that plans were being finalised for visiting minister of state Hina Rabbani Khar to attend the World Cup in Doha during the first week of December. Sources say that dates are still being finalised. Along with a formal invitation from the Qatari government, Saoud Abdulrahman Al-Thani, the ambassador of Qatar in Islamabad, called on Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Thursday and delivered a personal invitation from his Qatari counterpart to watch the World Cup.

According to sources, Pakistan should support a fellow Muslim nation that hosted the World Cup first and was being criticised by several international capitals, INGOs, and even the media for its purported human rights record. This is problematic at a time when criticism for violations of human rights can be levelled against any nation or administration worldwide.

The first person to publicly defend Qatar in a Tweet was Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, who wrote, "Unfortunate that Qatar is being subjected to a bombardment of propaganda as host of the FIFA World Cup. It deserves praise for making excellent preparations for the major event and for advancing world peace and development. Pakistan expresses its support for the Qatari people and HH the Emir.

The football made in Sialkot that was exported in its thousands to the World Cup was shown in a brief Tweet from the German ambassador in Islamabad, Alfred Grannas. He tweeted, "Every goal is a Pakistani goal."
